Partner + Co-Founder
Joe is a Brooklyn native and father of three who began his community organizing career in 2009. At Underdog Strategies, Joe has built dynamic coalitions of families and community members to increase funding and resources for public schools throughout the Northeast. He has crafted a playbook for lead generation campaigns, utilizing field organizers to gather thousands of leads and applications resulting in a significant increase in enrollment for schools.
Joe’s first Underdog win came when he and Alison led a victorious New York State Assembly campaign against the local establishment party, overcoming a 5:1 spending disadvantage to elect the second Black woman ever to represent the majority-white district. Prior to founding Underdog in 2018, Joe served as Deputy State Director at Families For Excellent Schools where he enabled tens of thousands of families to take collective action to fight for better educational options for their students.
Since 2019 he has served on the Board of Coney Island Prep and previously Co-Chaired the Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative. Joe is passionate about issue-based advocacy and community organizing that improves educational outcomes for children of all backgrounds.
